Far North Interior
Far-north and self-directed: river bends, Scott Valley towns, empty trailheads.
01 · The call
Mixed conditionsWhy now
Snow is easing on lower forest roads.
Watch out
Service gaps and variable road conditions mean this trip rewards planning more than spontaneity.
Plan B
Scott Valley, river views, Etna — if forest roads feel uncertain.
02 · The story

far-north forest guide
Klamath National Forest is for travelers who want a real far-north outdoor route and do not need the handholding of a national park.
Field notes
River is no place for tubes. The Klamath has Class II to V rapids, cascades, and waterfalls; it is not a lazy-tube river.
Current changes with the season. A calm late-summer pool can run very differently in spring.
